How to Read Your First Vedic Birth Chart

In short: A plain-language starting point for understanding your Lagna, houses and planetary placements before your first consultation.

If you're booking your first horoscope reading, it helps to know a few basic terms in advance so the consultation goes deeper, faster.

Start with the Lagna

Your Lagna (ascendant) is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at your exact time of birth. It's the reference point the rest of the chart is read from — which is why exact birth time matters so much for an accurate reading.

The Houses

A Vedic chart divides life into twelve houses — self, wealth, communication, home, creativity/children, health, partnerships, transformation, fortune, career, gains, and loss/release. Each house is examined in relation to which planets sit in it and which sign rules it.

Dasha periods

Vedic astrology uses planetary periods (dashas) to look at timing — which planet's themes are more prominent in your life right now, and which are coming up next.

Bringing it together

A first reading typically walks through all of this at a high level, then goes deeper into whichever house or period is most relevant to your current questions — whether that's marriage, career, or something else entirely.
